We are thankful for our warmer days here in the North Country! May should be a great month at Asian World Imports, Fair Trade Global Marketplace. To start us off we will be celebrating World Fair Trade Day on May 9th, 2009! This day long event is shared by other celebrants around the world. Churches, businesses, non-profits and other groups hold events to support and promote the importance of Fair Trade. The theme this year is “Everything is Better when it is Fair.”

At Asian World Imports will have sales, refreshments, music (thanks Michael B.!) and a raffle on World Fair Trade Day. The SLU students from the group “Literacy for Nepal” will also be there with an information booth! Come out and show your support of Fair Trade. The Fair Trade movement is growing and we want you to be a part of it. From the economy to climate change, it is obvious how we are all connected.

On other news, AWI also donated 50 “ditty” bags (camping bags with a drawstring) for those competing in the Rushton Canoe Races (a Canton, NY tradition). It is a great event. Also, AWI is becoming a hot spot for poetry readings and group meetings. GardenShare, Inc. now holds regular committee meetings at the shop during non-business hours. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. In May, we will also see a host of graduations, as there are four colleges in our area. We hope to meet many family members of those students who are regular customers.

Stop by and visit. We hope to see you during this beautiful spring month! We now have zafus (meditation cushions, mediation mats and other new items from around the world).
